The role of Controller is responsible for supervision of the monthly close process across the core business as well as oversight of subsidiaries, supervising accounts payable for Restaurant & Nightlife division and consolidated monthly reporting.  The position will also be part of a team that creates and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues in addition to creating procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures 
  • Manage outsourced functions 
  • Oversee the operations of applicable areas of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives 
  • Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures 
  • Review and oversee the recordation of journal entries required to reflect the monthly activity 
  • Oversee the preparation of workpapers supporting the monthly close process and month end balances 
  • Ensure that accounts receivable is collected promptly
  • Responsible for managing system software applications
  • Serve as project manager for any system implementation or upgrades 
  • Manage special projects as necessary 
  • Implement, document and maintain adequate and effective processes to improve the close and reporting cycles to ensure timely and accurate reporting 
  • Issue timely and complete financial statements 
  • Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report 
  • Prepare month end closing and financial reporting process including account analysis and reconciliation 
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations 
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management as needed
  • Assist and/ or complete additional tasks as assigned


EDUCATION/WORKING KNOWLEDGE:

  • B.S. degree in Accounting required. M.S. preferred. CPA required
  • Minimum of five to seven (5 – 7) years of experience in public accounting preferred 
  • Restaurant or retail industry experience preferred 
  • Proficient in Windows Microsoft Office, POS systems, Oracle knowledge preferred
