Assistant Controller at Legasea

POSITION SUMMARY:   

The role of Assistant Controller is responsible for assistance of the monthly close process across the core business as well as oversight of subsidiaries, supervising accounts payable for specific Restaurant & Nightlife venues and consolidated monthly reporting.  The position will also be part of a team that creates and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues in addition to creating procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: 

  • Assist in the preparation and review of monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to GAAP and company policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports for senior management.
  • Record of journal entries required to reflect the monthly activity.
  • Support the Controller with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation. 
  • Perform ad hoc financial analyses and other duties as assigned by the Controller or senior management. 
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Operations, Sales, and Marketing) to align financial objectives with operational goals. 
  • Ensure compliance with sales tax regulations on a periodic basis and supporting periodic audits and responding to audit inquiries. 
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Support the operations of applicable areas of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.  
  • Support the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.  
  • Ensure that accounts receivable is collected promptly.  
  • Support special projects as necessary. 
  • Support timely and complete financial statements.
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations. 
  • Monitor financial performance and prepare variance analysis, identifying areas for improvement or cost-saving opportunities. 
  • Assist and/ or complete additional tasks as assigned. 

EDUCATION/WORKING KNOWLEDGE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).  
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the hospitality, food and beverage, or retail industry. 
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and financial analysis.  
  • Proficient in accounting software (experience with Compeat or Restaurant365, is a plus).  
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, other MS Office applications, and Oracle preferred. 
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify trends and variances.  
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both financial and non-financial personnel.  
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.  
  • Knowledge of hotel industry operations, including revenue management, cost control, and capital budgeting.
